The Arohi Ensemble
Souls Ascending
September 30, 2011
The Arohi Ensemble features Paul Livingstone on sitar, Pedro Eustache on world winds, Abhijit Banerjee on tabla, Peter Jacobson on cello, and Dave Lewis on drums... with guest vocalist from India, Mahesh Kale!
Arohi plays ragajazz, a very open description for our sound, featuring original compositions and improvisation steeped in the classical ragas and rhythmic dynamism and excitement of Indian music. Our global approach to creative music making also incorporates authentic musical traditions and concepts of Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe along with jazz and and the layered counterpoint of western chamber music.
Mahesh Kale has performed in prestigious concerts all over India and the US as well as in the UAE and UK. He has also appeared on television and radio and gives lecture demonstrations in various US universities. More recently, Mahesh has been playing the central character in a popular Sangeet Natak (musical), Katyar Kaljat Ghusli, that was revived earlier in 2010.
$25 in advance / $30 at door / $15 students (21 and under)
