A World Premiere
When Sarah’s husband, Ian, an evolutionary biologist, is struck by lightning and suffers a near-death experience, he develops an obsession with music. This strange new twist in their ordered lives sends them to seek answers from others about the ways in which people transform, and whether a marriage can endure monumental change. Four lives unexpectedly entwine as they wrestle with the mysteries of the human mind and heart, the alchemy of the creative process, and that single spark that can to change it all.
Kathryn Walat Biography
Kathryn Walat’s Victoria Martin: Math Team Queen premiered Off-Broadway at the Women’s Project and has appeared in Dramatics magazine and New Playwrights: The Best Plays of 2007. Other plays include Bleeding Kansas (Hangar Theatre), awarded a Francesca Primus Citation and published by Samuel French; Know Dog (Salvage Vanguard); and Johnny Hong Kong (Perishable Theatre). Her work has been commissioned and produced by La Jolla Playhouse and Actors Theatre of Louisville, and developed at such places as The Public Theater, Manhattan Theatre Club, Playwrights Horizons, MCC, McCarter Theatre, Ars Nova, Electric Pear, Sundance Theatre Lab, Voice & Visions, and Bay Area Playwrights Festival. She is co-librettist (with composer Gregory Spears) of the opera Paul’s Case, and is working on a commission for The Germ Project at New Georges, where she is also an affiliated playwright. Ms. Walat received her BA from Brown University and her MFA from the Yale School of Drama.
Creation was commissioned by Yale Rep and was part of the O’Neill Theatre Center’s Playwrights Conference in 2010 and the 2010 PLAY/ground Festival at Boston Court.
