Boston Court Performing Arts Center is part of this city-wide event of free music happening all over Pasadena on June 1.

Boston Court presents the following free concerts:

Raf!ki/Alexis Soto, Jr.

Performing from 4pm-5:30pm

Alexis Soto Jr. was born and raised in LA county. He has been playing guitar since the age of 13 and singing and composing at age 17. An uncle surprised him one day by presenting to him his own guitar as a gift, giving Alexis a kick start in music. He played all throughout high school and then went on to Pasadena City College to study music, which is where he fell in love with Jazz and upright bass. Originally a classical bassist, Alexis moved over to Jazz and Latin bass quickly after building the calluses and the realization that he was picking up the instrument fairly quickly. Currently, after graduating Pasadena City College with an AA in Music, Alexis leads Jazz, Funk, and Latin combos playing through the Great American Songbook repertoire as well as the top 40's repertoire for private and public events, composes and arranges works for clients and events, gives private lessons for guitar, music theory, and salsa dancing, and leads his own Latin Funk band, Raf!ki, that features his original compositions and collaborative arrangements of Afro-Latin, Jazz, and Funk pieces.

Bill Cunliffe Trio

Performing from 6pm-7:30pm

Jazz pianist, composer and Grammy Award-winning arranger Bill Cunliffe is known for his innovative and swinging recordings and compositions. Bill began his career as pianist and arranger with the Buddy Rich Big Band and worked with Frank Sinatra, Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard, Benny Golson and James Moody. He has since established himself as a solo artist and bandleader, with more than a dozen albums under his name.

Andrea Baker Quartet

Performing from 8pm-10pm

Andrea Baker is a critically acclaimed singer and multi-instrumentalist. Noted jazz critic, Leonard Feather, has compared Andrea to Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan and Jazz Improv Magazine called her a female Sinatra. Don Heckman of the LA Times proclaimed her a musician's singer. Her many CD's have likewise garnered rave reviews and have received nationwide airplay on jazz stations including heavy play from Chuck Niles of KJZZ. Veteran singer, Johnny Mathis, endorsed her latest CD, Candles in the Wind calling her a vocal "gem." A recent appearance in Kansas City brought her the highest praise from Downbeat critic, Chuck Berg. Andrea is guest vocalist on the newly released DVD, Steve Wilkerson; Live and in Session. In addition to her vocal prowess, Andrea is an accomplished guitarist, bassist, pianist, composer and arranger.
