Futura
World Premiere by Jordan Harrison
Directed by Jessica Kubzansky
September 30 - November 14, 2010

EXTENDED THROUGH NOVEMBER 14TH!

Can a font change the future? On her first day back at the University, a rogue professor sets out to avenge her missing husband – and the lost art of ink on paper – by conducting a dangerous lesson on typography. When the Professor’s lecture jumps the rails, we peer into a near future where desperate people search for the tangible in an ever more virtual age.

A shared world premiere with Portland Center Stage and The National Asian American Theatre Company.

CRITIC'S PICK! "Futura is that rare breed, a ripping good yarn with plenty of intellectual heft. Director Jessica Kubzansky handles the transitions from the academic to the suspenseful like an Indy driver shifting into high gear. Friedericy spearheads an exceptional cast, and Tournier is particularly winning as young man avid to put pen to paper and light up his synapses. Myung Hee Cho’s set design, beautifully lighted by Jaymi Lee Smith... Hana Sooyeon Kim's projection design and John Zalewski's sound are also crucial components."
-LA Times

"This play is only 90-minutes and with Harrison's script and Kubzansky's adept direction, we're never bored."
-Examnier.com

"director Jessica Kubzansky skillfully balances the elements of verbiage and violence in the text, underscoring the charming relationship between Friedericy and Tournier."
-LA Weekly

"...heady stuff...deeply engaging."
