The Theatre @ Boston Court will present two weekends of rehearsed readings of four compelling new plays May 19th and 26th at Boston Court. Literary Managers Bryan Davidson and Tom Jacobson have chosen the plays with the help of Artistic Directors Jessica Kubzansky and Michael Michetti and The Theatre @ Boston Court creative team.
This season, three of the four Boston Court Main Stage productions originated in our reading series. Be among the first to see what could be appearing at Boston Court in the coming years.
"1001" May 19, 11 a.m. -- Written by Jason Grote, directed by Michael Michetti. "1001" spins highly theatrical themes and variations from "A Thousand and One Arabian Nights" to explore the incarnations of love, sex, religion, cruelty and war that moves fluidly from the sultans of ancient Baghdad to the high anxiety of the post-9/11 era.
"Donna Wants" May 19, 3 p.m. -- Written by Karen Hartman, directed by Marya Mazor. An irreverent, gender-bending take on the legend of Don Juan, Donna Wants moves the farcical adventures of the world's greatest playboy – now a playgirl – to present-day Southern California.
"House of the Rising Sun" May 26, 11 a.m. -- Written by Tom Jacobson, directed by Mark Bringelson. When Trent brings Felix home to New Orleans to meet his father and homophobic grandfather, the family’s demons come slithering into the light. Watchful ghosts, sinister hustlers, and a myriad of parasites lead Felix on a Southern Gothic journey to St. Louis Cemetery No. 1. Contains adult language and situations.
"The Sequence" May 26, 3 p.m. -- Written by Paul Mullin, directed by Jessica Kubzansky. In the competition to sequence the human genome, will the grand prize be the public good or private profit? And how will four people, amid the frenzied race to determine what makes a human being, discover their humanity?
